CONTRACTIONS

Contractions are the form of condensation that is often used either in spoken or written language. Form contractions usually formed from a combination of to be, auxiliary verbs, and modals with personal pronouns, the negative form (not) and question words.
Contractions forms are as follows:
1.            Personal pronouns + to be
Example :

I’m        = I am         
You’re   = You are     
He’s       = He is        
She’s      = She is
It’s         = It is
We’re    = We are
They’re  = They are

2.          Personal pronouns + to be + not
Example :

I’m not                            = I am not        
You aren’t/You’re not     = You are not    
He isn’t/He’s not             = He is not       
She’s isn’t/She’s not         = She is not
It’s isn’t/It’s not              = It is not
We aren’t /We’re not      = We are not
They aren’t/They’re not   = They are not

3.           To be past + not
Example :

Wasn’t    = Was not
Weren’t  = Were not

4.          Modals + not
Example:

Mustn’t  = Must not
Shan’t     = Shall not
Can’t      = Can not
Won’t    = Will not

5.           Past modals + not
Example:

Oughtn’t    = Ought
Shouldn’t   = Should
Couldn’t    = Could
Wouldn’t   = Would

6.           Personal pronouns + will
Example :

I’ll        = I will        
You’ll   = You will     
He’ll     = He will        
She’ll    = She will
It’ll       = It will
We’ll    = We will
They’ll  = They will

7.           Others
Example :

Needn’t    = Need not
Ma’am      = Madam
I’d            = I should/would/had
They’ve    = They have
Where’s    = Where is
Let’s         = Let us
She’d        = She would/had
Here’s      = Here is
You’d       = You had/would
Who’s      = Who is
